On November 16, 2016, the 37 member City of Los Angeles Workforce Development Board took an oath of office and then conducted its two hour fall quarterly meeting. Learn More About the Members of the Board
Among the items discussed and actions taken included the approval of $1 million in Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds for workforce training programs and services targeting underrepresented populations within Los Angeles. These populations include former foster children, the transgender community and persons formerly in the justice system.
In addition, the WDB:
- Commissioned an assessment of the workforce development needs of the transgender community
- Commissioned the development of a gender equity plan and policies for implementation by the City's Workforce Development System
- Funded sponsorship of the City of Los Angeles Department on Disability "Abilities Expo and Job Fair", to be held at the LA Convention Center March 24-26, 2017
Within the meeting, the WDB also conducted a public hearing and input session on the development of the WIOA Regional Plan, a comprehensive, collaborative plan for training investments and business engagement by the seven Workforce Development Boards within Los Angeles County.
