In mid-June, the California Employment Development Department awarded $888,000 to local WorkSource Centers/America's Job Center of California (AJCC) to assist veterans through Veterans Employment-Related Assistance Program (VEAP) grants.

Managed Career Solutions, Inc (MCS), operator of the City of Los Angeles' Hollywood WorkSource Center/AJCC and the County of Los Angeles' West San Gabriel Valley and Northeast San Gabriel Valley WorkSource Centers/AJCCs, received a $444,000 VEAP grant to assist 175 recently separated veterans with their job search assistance, training, supportive services and referral needs.

MCS will assist Veterans to earn industry recognized credentials in four industry sectors including: healthcare, security, information technology and hospitality.

Community Career Development, Inc (CCD), operator of the City of Los Angeles Wilshire Metro WorkSource Center/AJCC and the County of Los Angeles Compton WorkSource Center/AJCC was also awarded a $444,000 VEAP grant. CCD's grant will incorporate pre-employment job-readiness and vocational training to help place 160 veterans in high-demand occupations of the region's high-growth industries including transportation/logistics, energy, security and healthcare. The program will utilize "Earn and Learn" opportunities, onsite financial coaching, counseling, and other social service referral services. In addition, the program will incorporate training for City and County WorkSource Center/AJCC staff, as well as instructors, employers and nonprofit partners about working effectively with transitioning veterans.
