On Thursday, February 29, 2024, EWDD's JEDI Zone team and City Council District 7's team conducted a tour of the Van Nuys Jobs & Economic Development Incentive (JEDI) Zone. Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez and EWDD’s General Manager Carolyn Hull visited local small businesses, Sabor a la Mexicana and A New Smile Dental Group, to inform them about the resources available to their businesses through the JEDI Zone program.
Sabor a la Mexicana’s business owner, Sandra Contreras, is looking to make changes to the restaurant patio. Contreras is seeking assistance from the program to aid in permit approvals to make improvements to her business.
In taking these tours and engaging with local businesses, the city is “Making sure that low-income communities access the same competitive economic development tools. By declaring this area a JEDI Zone and providing additional economic incentive tools, we are helping our small local businesses with a variety of programs,” stated Councilmember Rodriquez.

The Jobs & Economic Development Incentive (JEDI) Zone program is an initiative that creates opportunities for businesses in shopping corridors to jump-start and improve the economic activity in their zone. The initiative focuses on, but not limited to, clearing building code violations, connecting business owners to qualified employees, assistance with access to capital at low interest rates, and façade improvement.
