Countywide Public Forums on Regional Workforce Development Strategies & Local Plans Modifications

panorama picture of downtown Los Angeles
The seven Workforce Development Boards (WDBs) of the Los Angeles region are hosting 16 public meetings across the city and county to enhance and strengthen the workforce development system. In addition, several public forums will be held to discuss California Local Plan Modifications.

The community is invited to join the discussion on improving employment services and to share personal assessments of the progress of our regional workforce development plan.

Eight forums will be held in November and December, and will be focused on Assessing the Effectiveness of Regional Programs and Tools. Eight forums focused on Effective Prison to Employment Strategies were previously held in October.

Also in November, the City of Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD) will conduct a series of public forums to gather public input related to the Preparation of the State of California Required Local Plan Modification.

The public is invited to attend any City of Los Angeles Workforce Development Board Meeting. All of these meetings are open to the public.

8 Forums to Assess the Effectiveness of Regional Workforce Development

Join in community discussions about the successes and shortfalls in current regional workforce strategies. Representatives from local workforce development practitioners, and leaders and stakeholders from the nonprofit, social services, education, labor, business and government sectors will be in attendence.

The methods under discussion will include regional planning, coordination and workforce development services provided by the seven Workforce Development Boards within Los Angeles County and their partners through several State of California initiatives including the Slingshot, High Road Partnerships, and Accelerator grant funds.

The State of California seeks to underwrite work that will push progress in achieving three main objectives:
  1. In-demand skills attainment
  2. Upward mobility of workers
  3. Equity for individuals with barriers to employment

These forums will also discuss and review an assessment tool provided by the State to gauge the level of success of the regional efforts.

Input from these meetings will be used to refine the comprehensive regional workforce development plan created by the City of Los Angeles WDB and the six other local WDBs serving the jobseekers and employers within Los Angeles County. This effort is required and guided by the State of California Workforce Development Board.
