panorama picture of downtown Los Angeles
The seven Workforce Development Boards (WDBs) of the Los Angeles region are hosting 16 public meetings across the city and county to enhance and strengthen the workforce development system.

The community is invited to join the discussion on improving employment services for justice-involved individuals and to share personal assessments of the progress of our regional workforce development plan.

Eight of these meetings will focus on Effective Prison to Employment Strategies, the other eight will be focused on Assessing the Effectiveness of Regional Programs and Tools.

The public is also invited to attend any City of Los Angeles Workforce Development Board Meeting. All of these meetings are open to the public.

8 Forums to Discuss and Learn about Effective Prison to Employment Strategies

As part of Governor Brown’s efforts to improve California’s criminal and juvenile justice systems and reduce recidivism through increased rehabilitation, the City of Los Angeles Workforce Development Board is hosting a series of public forums to discuss and explore effective strategies for reentry and employment.

Leading experts from the LA County Probation Department, the California Department of Corrections, as well as other agencies and nonprofits which serve re-entry populations will facilitate discussions on reducing recidivism and generating employment for the LA region’s large re-entry and justice population.

Topics will include, but not be limited to:
  • Best practices to serve re-entry/justice involved individuals
  • Which agencies serve this population
  • Which regional employers and businesses typically employ this population
  • The experiences and challenges of re-entry/justice involved individuals in terms of transition to post-release life and the workforce

These forums will also cover the efforts to align resources to better serve re-entry, formerly incarcerated and justice involved populations.

8 Forums to Assess the Effectiveness of Regional Workforce Development

Join in community discussions about the successes and shortfalls in current regional workforce strategies. Representatives from local workforce development practitioners, and leaders and stakeholders from the nonprofit, social services, education, labor, business and government sectors will be in attendence.

The methods under discussion will include regional planning, coordination and workforce development services provided by the seven Workforce Development Boards within Los Angeles County and their partners through several State of California initiatives including the Slingshot, High Road Partnerships, and Accelerator grant funds.

The State of California seeks to underwrite work that will push progress in achieving three main objectives:
  1. In-demand skills attainment
  2. Upward mobility of workers
  3. Equity for individuals with barriers to employment

These forums will also discuss and review an assessment tool provided by the State to gauge the level of success of the regional efforts.
